What is this blog you write?
Themplusme is a blog dedicated to my parents. Its content centers around my hysterical interactions with them, but also includes experiences and encounters I find worth writing about. I find it interesting to examine the dynamics between individuals.
One of the things I love most about writing creative nonfiction is the process of transforming an ordinary encounter into something humorous and entertaining. I truly believe our experiences are based on how we choose to transform, elevate or subtract the details.
People approach my mom in the supermarket and say, "I love Angela's blog; I read it all the time." In a failed attempt to excuse her behavior she says, "Well, you do know she exaggerates those stories don't you?" Read the (unexaggerated) stories
What attracted you to this business?
I was always a creative child. I wanted to live things. I wanted to experience things in a profound way.
I saw this industry as the perfect opportunity to combine everything I was passionate about–writing, photography, creativity and learning. I learned to refine, redefine, delete, and embody technology as art and a way to connect with others.
What is your driving philosophy?
I think this quote by Kate Braverman sums it up: "You are judged not only by what you know, but also by what you refuse to know. That’s important to consider as a life style. Excluding and deleting is at least as important as absorbing and mastering." Kate Braverman is a beautiful writer. Her interviews are inspiring. She comes to life through the page.
I think this really embodies what we as designers and creators do. What can we simplify to better illustrate our message? I want to be a sponge and a filter at the same time. Balance is key.
